- Description
- Remains III pairs a painting on wood panel with a Bitcoin Ordinal built to decay. Beginning at block 1,050,000 (Bitcoin's 5th halving), one pixel is permanently erased per block in a fixed pseudorandom sequence seeded at inscription. The digital component consists of exactly 210,000 pixels, one for each block of Bitcoin's halving epoch. After 210,000 blocks, approximately four years, the image is fully consumed and only a black square remains. A unique code sealed beneath the paint surface of the paired physical painting can halt the decay permanently. To retrieve it, the collector must destroy a meaningful portion of the painting and inscribe the code as a child transaction of this Ordinal. The work cannot be fully preserved in both forms simultaneously.
